Josue is the Spanish and French form of Joshua, derived from the Hebrew name Yehoshua (יְהוֹשֻׁעַ), composed of two elements: "Yah" (a shortened form of Yahweh, the Hebrew God) and "shua" (meaning "to save" or "salvation"). The name literally translates to "God is salvation" or "God saves." From Hebrew, the name traveled through Greek as Iēsous (Ἰησοῦς), which became Jesus in English and Romance languages.
